We’re all familiar with the term “420” and its connection to cannabis, but do you know the history behind it?

420 was actually coined by a bunch of teenagers, known as the Waldos in California in the 1970s. They’d all meet up after school at exactly 4:20pm to smoke and search for a legendary hidden stash. They never found the secret stash, but the name stuck around as a code word for hanging out. Along the way, bands like the Grateful Dead adopted the phrase and it grew within their fan base.

By the 1990s, High Times Magazine had picked up the term, and suddenly “420” was everywhere. What started as an inside joke, turned into a worldwide cultural movement.

Today, April 20th is a fun opportunity to hang with friends, take it slow, and treat yourself!
