The Families of Cultivar

HoC created their own unique cannabis periodic table with the intention to teach consumers about their expansive menu as well as the specifics of each strain. Such categorization makes for an easy, well-informed decision when deciding which strain may be best for you.

This visual representation of their genetic library showcases a picture of each bud with the strain name, lineage, and whether it’s sativa, hybrid, or indica. The strains are also placed in one of five categories: Purps & Pie, Floral & Haze, Citrus & Sap, Fruit Trees, and Gas Pack. The Gas Pack category is broken down even further into different flavors, including Kush Berries, Glue Trap, Cookie Dough, The OGs, and Chem Diesel.

In addition to the periodic table, HoC put together a visual of what flavors may be detected in each strain category. Let’s take a quick look at what each category represents as well as the specific strains and flavors in each.

Purps & Pie

Purps & Pie represents strains that hold purple tones and sweet, tarty flavors, which are likely descendants of the Afghani landrace strain. Some of these strains include Mendo Purps, Cherry Pie, Purple Punch, Uppercut, and Sundae Driver. These strains may give off black currant, cherry, rose, fig, grape, and cocoa flavors.

Floral & Haze

Floral & Haze represents strains that may provide a more energizing and uplifting experience, with notes of natural, floral flavors. These cultivars are derived from the famous Haze genetics, which is believed to come from a mix of Mexican and Colombian landrace strains that were then crossed with the landrace Thai strain. With notes of nutmeg, almond, and citrus, some of these strains include Pink Prosecco, Durban Poison, and Ghost Train Haze.

Citrus & Sap

Citrus & Sap represents strains that are high in the citrusy terpene, limonene. Strains in this family have citrus flavors, such as orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit as well as pine, zest, and skunk. Mac, Zkittlez, Mimosa, Glazed Apricot Gelato, and Golden Lemons are a handful of the HoC Citrus & Sap strains.

Fruit Trees

Fruit Trees puts more focus on the flavors rather than the shared genetic lineage. Strains in this family have fresh, creamy, fruit notes, with hints of strawberry, pineapple, banana, peach, apricot, and watermelon. Some of these strains include Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Sherban Poison, Afghan Peach, Strawberries & Cream, and Watermelon Soda.

Gas Packs

Gas Packs represent strains that hold a strong, gassy smell and flavor. Including Chem 91, GMO, Bubba Kush, Gelato, and LA Confidential, these strains hold notes of garlic, pine, blackberry, and earth. There are five Gas Pack sub-families: Chem Diesel, The OGs, Kush Berries, Cookie Dough, and Glue Trap.
